Galle Face protest completes a month


The peaceful people’s protest at Galle Face demanding the resignation of the President and incumbent government enters its 31st day today (09), completing a month.

The protest commenced on the morning of 9 April and is still active in front of the Presidential Secretariat.

Despite the weather conditions, people from various parts of the country joined the protest.

Artists, university students, religious leaders, various professionals and the general public came out in support, expressing their displeasure over the current government and the President.

The protesters also celebrated the Sinhala-Tamil New Year and Ramadan at Galle Face.

Various organizations and groups worked to provide food, medicine and other basic necessities to the protesters.

It is noteworthy that the protesters named the protest site near the Presidential Secretariat on 11 April as “GotaGoGama” and added it to Google maps.
