Leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Sajith Premadasa has slammed President Gotabaya Rajapaksa over his decision to declare a State of Emergency.
Taking to Twitter, Premadasa called on Rajapaksa to resign, claiming that the prevailing State of Emergency “runs counter to seeking any solution to the ongoing economic crisis”.
Further, he noted that peaceful protesters are not, in fact, breaking any laws, and that the use of excessive force is only to provoke them, so that the Government can justify further aggression.
“#GoSL is on a war path to continue to hold on to power”, Premadasa stated.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Anura Kumara Dissanayake also noted that the President has to understand that the imposition of such laws will not suppress or prevent the just struggles and protests of the people.
