Colombo Additional Magistrate T. N. L. Mahawatta yesterday (5) remanded, till 19 May, a suspect, who surrendered to Court through his lawyer, in connection with the trafficking of narcotics, which had been kept as Court productions.
The suspect was in charge of the Court Productions Room at the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
When the case was taken up previously, the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) had named the suspect, identified as K. Gemunu Sampath, as the second suspect.
The PNB had previously informed the Court, that they had arrested a suspect in the Wellampitiya Police Division on 21 April, in possession of 48 kg of narcotics.
The PNB had told Magistrate Mahawatta that upon grilling the suspect, he had stated that he had received the stock of narcotics, from a Police Constable attached to the Gothatuwa Police Station.
They had further told the Court, that through the suspect they had managed to coax the suspect PC to come to a parking lot at Gothatuwa area, where they frisked him and found 750 grams of heroin in his possession.
Upon the suspect being arrested and produced in Court, he was remanded till 12 May.
