Progress of the Ministry of Highways’ islandwide Road and Bridge Development Programme, as well as progress at district level was recently reviewed at the Ministry of Highways Auditorium by Minister of Highways, Kanaka Herath.
Discussions were held about ongoing road and bridge projects, as well as proposed projects being implemented in the Moneragala, Batticaloa and Kegalle Districts.
The Ministry of Highways and the Road Development Authority, which is spearheading the task held discussions with District and Provincial Officers about projects being implemented islandwide. The economic downturn was also emphasised.
According to a ministry statement, a large number of road development projects initiated in the country have been vested in the people.
“It was decided to take steps to expedite projects currently in progress, as well as others that are yet to commence. Road and bridge development projects will come under the 100,000 kilometre road project, integrated rural road development programme, Ran Mawath programme, and road development projects implemented under the Maga Neguma concept,” he said.
The Minister directed that these development activities should be carried out to withstand natural disaster such as floods and landslides.
