Only 65 MPs stand with people – Rasamanickam

Only 65 MPs are with the ordinary people, while 148 are still doing the Rajapaksa family’s bidding, Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam stressed yesterday (5).

Speaking after Ranjith Siyambalapitiya was elected as Deputy Speaker, Rasamanickam said, “The drama in Parliament came to light when the vote to elect a Deputy Speaker was held, for the whole country to see. We saw with our own eyes how former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe went from seat to seat and requested MPs personally to vote for Siyambalapitiya. He is in the Opposition. The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) voted for Siyambalapitiya with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP). This is nothing but a drama. Right now, only 65 MPs represent Sri Lanka’s interests. The other 148 MPs are working to salvage the Rajapaksa family.”

Rasamanickam stressed that whenever a motion, even a No-Confidence Motion (NCM) is brought against the Rajapaksa family, these 148 MPs will vote against it. Although they introduced themselves as independent and against the Government, their true intention is to salvage the Rajapaksa family, he alleged.
