Hydropower plants to release more water

The Ministry of Power and Energy, in collaboration with the State Ministry of Mahaweli Development, has decided to release more water from hydropower plants for the next five days.

This is to avoid prolonging the power outage, until the Norochcholai Power Plant is repaired.

Under the patronage of Ministers Janaka Wakkumbura and Kanchana Wijesekera, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Mahaweli Development to address the continuation of power outages caused by the sudden breakdown at the Norochcholai Power Plant, as well as to discuss future hydropower generation plans.

State Minister of Mahaweli Siripala Gamlath, as well as officials from the Ministry of Irrigation, Power, and Institutions, were also present.

Thus, Irrigation officials agreed to provide enough water to resolve the issue at the Norochcholai Power Plant as soon as possible, as well as to increase hydropower generation to avoid prolonging the power outage caused by the Norochcholai Power Plant failure.
