Sirisena denies embezzling Bonds Scam funds

SLFP Chairman, MP Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (4), requested the Convener of Voice Against Corruption Wasantha Samarasinghe to submit any documents in his possession to the CID, where the latter has charged the former and his family members with receiving defrauded cash from the CBSL Bonds Scam.

Samarasinghe had alleged that Sirisena, his son-in-law, and his three children had laid claim to the windfall which took place via the CBSL Treasury Bonds Scam in 2015.

Sirisena said if the JVP is in possession of such documents implicating his family in the crime and if they are unable to submit it to the CID then they should hand it over either to the IGP or the AG. The former President added that if it could be proved beyond a reasonable doubt that either he or any of his family members had been involved in the alleged act of corruption, then they were more than willing to face any penalty that could be imposed.
