Panadura school fire


Panadura Police arrested two students on suspicion of setting fire to the principal’s office and the computer lab of Sri Jinadharmadana Vidyalaya in Panadura on Tuesday (3) afternoon.

The suspects are aged 12 and 9 and are residents of Keselwatta Second Lane, Panadura.

According to Police, the fire destroyed over 20 computers in the computer lab and its accessories, fans, a large number of textbooks, principal’s chair and several trophies.

The school was closed at the time of the blaze. Residents had seen the fire rising and were trying to contain it. On hearing about the incident, a Police team arrested two students. Police said the fire was started with sanitiser liquid.

A Police team led by OIC Sanjeewa Lakmal and OIC of the Crimes Division,
Sub Inspector Hirantha Tilakaratne are conducting investigations.

Akmeemana stabbing

An individual has been arrested for stabbing his wife to death.

The suspect had visited the Akmeemana Police on 3 May, where he admitted to the crime, following which he was arrested.

According to Police, a family dispute and subsequent argument were the reasons for the stabbing. The deceased is a 36-year-old resident of Ankokkawala.
