Judge calls for objections

Colombo District Judge Dulani S. Weeratunga yesterday (4) issued notice to former President Maithripala Sirisena and SLFP officials, to file objections on 20 June if any, pertaining to the case where a party member has filed a lawsuit challenging the former President’s right to hold the reins of the SLFP .

The District Judge issued notices on SLFP Leader Sirisena, its General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekera, SLFP Treasurer Lasantha Alagiyawanna and National Organiser Duminda Dissanayake, to file submissions as to why the Court should not issue an Interim Injunction against them.

SLFP member and activist Montague Sarathchandra, a resident of Malabe, had filed the case on 8 April charging that the actions of Maithripala Sirisena, who continues to function as the SLFP Leader, is in direct violation of the party’s constitution.

He prayed the Court to issue an order preventing Sirisena from operating in his post. When the case was taken up, Counsel Pulasthi Rupasinghe appearing for the respondent former President, requested Judge Weeratunga, to grant a fresh date for his client to make submissions in this connection. Attorney Dinesh de Silva appeared for the petitioner Sarathchandra.
