Devananda meets Indian investors


Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda said, with a view of starting modern seaweed farms in Mandaitivu, Jaffna he has held discussions with a group of Indian investors.

Devananda said the discussions were held at the Fisheries Ministry chaired by him and Ministry Secretary Indu Ratnayake and State Secretary Jayantha Chandrasoma and National Aquaculture Development Authority (NAQDA) Director General Dr. J.M. Asoka were present.

Devananda added that it is noteworthy that India as a neighbour is extending tremendous support and assistance to resolve the economic crisis.

He said the support of Indian investors in the cultivation of seaweed using modern technology to achieve sustainable economic development in the country must be highly appreciated.

The Minister also promised that he would provide required assistance to expand this project to other parts in the North, identifying suitable lands.
