Borella Crematorium crippled

Lack of funds has led to the operations at the crematorium of Borella General Cemetery coming to a standstill, a CMC top official revealed.

According to the official, this was due to non-availability of gas required for the crematorium to function.

“CMC owes nearly Rs 500,000 to the gas supplier, in addition to not having funds to purchase gas consignments for the future as well,” the official said.

“The crematorium will be closed for a few days. It is not because of the present gas shortage. The supplier has the necessary amount of gas, but due to delayed payment the crematorium has no gas to function,” the official added.

Meanwhile, when contacted, CMC Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Ruwan Wijemuni confirmed there are delays in payment and pledged the issue will be rectified soon by settling the amount due.
