If the LTTE represented Parliament we would have even held discussions with Prabhakaran to save our country from the current crisis, organiser of the National Freedom Front (NFF), former Minister of State Jayantha Samaraweera stated.
Responding to a question raised by a journalist as to why the NFF and several other parties met former Minister Basil Rajapaksa, while contradicting an earlier statement that they would not have any connection with the latter, Samaraweera said, “Not only Basil, if the LTTE was in Parliament, we would even hold discussions with Prabhakaran to find a solution to this national crisis. The country is facing the worst economic crisis in its history.
The only way out is for all parties in Parliament to come to a common agreement and form an all-party Interim Government. The President and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP),which currently the largest number of MPs, has agreed to hold discussions with the Samagi Jana Balawewa and other parties in the coming days. A separate round of talks is being held to seek the participation of scholars, professionals and social activists in the consensus government programme,” he said. At the discussion held with the SLPP on 3 May, the policy agreement for the formation of a new all-party Government was brought up. Accordingly, they agree to abolish the current Cabinet, including the Prime Minister, and form a new Cabinet. Accordingly, the resignation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will take place, he claimed.
