Cabinet approval has been given to import gas from Thailand.
Accordingly, the Cabinet has approved the purchase of liquefied petroleum (LP) gas from Thailand-based Siam Gas Company for a period of one year.
The said company will supply 70 per cent of Sri Lanka’s annual LP gas requirement.
Further, the company has agreed to provide gas with a 10 per cent reduction in supply charges.
The price at which LPG is to be purchased is US$ 9 less per MT than the current supplier from Oman.
Sri Lanka is currently facing a severe gas shortage owing to the forex crisis.
