The Big Life magazine, in partnership with Cipla, a leading pharmaceutical company, has organised a fun cycle ride on Saturday, 7 May, to mark World Asthma Day 2022. The ride will commence between 8 and 9 a.m. from the NCC at Maitland Place, Colombo 07 and is scheduled to conclude at

Cycling is one of the activities that is recommended for people with asthma. Vigorous cycling is a great aerobic exercise that stimulates lung function improvements. Of course, exercise can be one of the things that triggers asthma and this is why medical experts advise to exercise but follow their tips to avoid an attack like taking a lung capacity test before and after.

Event sponsor Cipla says it has been built brick by brick on the foundation of care. “We are driven by this purpose – a purpose that is 82 years young and it lies at the centre of all our thoughts and plans, driving our actions. “Over 60 years ago, a tiny puff of medicine launched a therapeutic revolution. Today, we are helping the world breathe better. We have the world’s largest range of inhaled medication and devices. For every condition, every age and every stage, we have the right medication, the perfect dosage form, the right delivery system for the management of asthma.”
Data from Sri Lanka College of Pulmonologists (SLCP) shows that Sri Lanka has an estimated one million asthma patients approximately with close to 1,000 persons dying of asthma every year in the island in Government hospitals.
SLCP says the country was reaching a higher level in the world’s asthma statistics due to the number of persons being diagnosed with the disease while there are a total of 300 million asthma patients in the world.
