The Cabinet has decided to appoint a sub-committee chaired by the President to determine solutions for the cost of living in the country.
The sub-committee will include the Prime Minister, Ministers and State Ministers.
It has been tasked with providing the necessary policy and practical solutions to keep the cost of living stable.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet has also given approval to provide a cash allowance to low income families for three months.
Accordingly, approximately Rs 13.4 billion has been allocated for 3.34 million families.
This relief will be given to Samurdhi-recipients, elderly, kidney disease patients and those who receive a disability allowance. Contingent Emergency Response Component in projects funded by the World Bank will provide the necessary funding.
The Cabinet approved proposals presented by the Ministers of Finance and Samurdhi regarding the special three-month cash allowance for identified families.
