Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya Gampaha won their maiden title when they emerged champions of the Under-19 Girls Inter Schools Cricket tournament.
The only unbeaten team in the series, Rathnavali beat arch rival Anula Vidyalaya Nugegoda by 66 runs in the final at Bloomfield yesterday.
Anula won the toss and invited Rathnavali to take first lease of the wicket. Rathnavali scored 199 runs for 9 wickets in their 30 overs. Skipper and right- hand opening batter Vishmi Gunarathne scored a valuable unbeaten 125 runs in 92 balls with 15 boundaries and 2 sixes. Vishmi scored 900 runs in 8 innings with 9 not outs in the tournament. She made the highest individual score in an inning in the history of Sri Lanka girls’ cricket when she scored 417 runs against Jayasiripura Kanishta Vidyalaya Polonnaruwa in the pre-quarter-final.
Anula were bowled out for 133 runs in 29.3 overs. Imalshi Yasara top scored with 33 runs. Vidushika Perera claimed 3 wickets and Nipuni Navodya 2.
Last year’s champion Devapathiraja College Rathgama beat last year’s runner-up Wadduwa Central College by 54 runs in the 3rd place match in the morning at the same venue.
