MCPA calls for progress reports from Health Ministry


The Medical and Civil Rights Professional Association of Doctors (MCPA) requested the Health Ministry for the report submitted by the scientific committee appointed to investigate alleged attempts made by Dr. Shaafi Shihabdeen to sterilise women.

President and Secretary of the MCPA, Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa and Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara under the Right to Information (RIT) Act. No 12 of 2016 requested Health Minister, Prof Channa Jayasumana and the Director General Health Services (DGHS), Dr. Asela Gunawardena to reveal the  report findings on Dr. Shihabdeen’s alleged attempts to sterilise women by fallopian tube intervention and for the final report of the investigation into the concoction prepared by an ayurvedic physician for Covid -19,from Kurunegala.

The RIT also includes a request to know if an estimate had been sent to the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation regarding the pharmaceutical requirement prior to the drug crisis and its details, research report on the Rajarata Kidney Disease which the Health Ministry may have carried out, details with regard to the Bribery and Corruption Charges brought against several officials in the Health Ministry after 2015 when the Government of Good Governance came into power and an audit report of  the ‘Itukama’ Health Care and Social Security fund and the most recent development with regard to the Data scam which took place at the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) when several files were allegedly deleted.(DJ)
