Maximum retail price imposed on local rice varieties


The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has issued an Extraordinary Gazette Notification listing the maximum retail prices for several types of rice.

Accordingly, a kilogram of white and red nadu rice will be sold at Rs. 220, a kilogram of white and red samba at Rs. 230, and a kilogram of keeri samba at Rs. 260.

The Authority informed that suppliers, manufacturers, producers, distributors or traders cannot sell, supply, expose or offer for sale, display for sale the varieties of rice, exceeding the maximum retail prices.

The directive is effective as of Monday (02).
