Steps would be taken to release stocks of imported rice, which is currently being sold only at Lanka Sathosa, to all supermarkets from next week, Trade Minister Shehan Semasinghe said.
A kilo of Nadu will be sold at Rs 145 and a kilo of Samba will be sold at Rs175 and will be issued through supermarkets as well as through SATHOSA. However, customer purchase has been limited to 5 kg of rice at a time.
Semasinghe told Ceylon Today there were enough stocks of imported rice for now and all stocks will be provided to supermarkets according to the need.
Moreover,he said the Trade Ministry would study the availability of rice and would take necessary action in the future considering the need.
