Navy arrests 13 attempting to flee to India


The Navy arrested 13 persons and seized two boats, attempting to illegally cross to India from the Palaly coast in Jaffna.

It has been revealed that the arrested persons had arrived in the Palaly area from Thillainagar in Trincomalee and then attempted to travel to India on the Palaly sea route using two boats.

The suspects, who were apprehended by the Northern Naval Command, while sailing along the Palaly sea lane, were taken into custody along with the two boats and a stock of fuel and later handed over to the Palaly Police. Among the detainees were three women, three men and five children, as well as two boat owners from the Palaly area, Police said.
