JVP urges election in near future

If an Interim Government is to be appointed, it should be limited to a very short period and the Government should take steps to hold an election in the near future, JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said.

Speaking to Ceylon Today on Friday (29), he said the economic crisis will worsen by May, July, owing to the political impasse.

“The JVP has emphasised several times that there will not be any solutions to the economic crisis if we failed to solve this political turmoil. Political stability can be guaranteed only by letting the public to elect a Government. Therefore, the public should be allowed to vote,” he added.

Dissanayake said a new political culture is needed to stop fraud and corruption and to form a Government that punishes fraudsters.

He added that Sri Lanka cannot be rebuilt without a new economic strategy.
