A Fundamental Rights petition has been filed before the Supreme Court on Friday (29 April), on behalf of Activist Thisara Anurudda Bandara, who was arrested by the Modara Police for managing a Facebook page titled ‘Go Home Gota 2022’.
The Petitioner seeks compensation of Rs 100 million to be payable by one or all respondents and the State.
Further, other exemplary costs were also sought together with an order declaring that his Fundamental Rights, guaranteed by the Constitution, were infringed.
Twelve respondents, including SDIG Deshabandu Tennakoon, IGP C.D. Wickramaratne and the Attorney General were named in the Petition.
Bandara was arrested and questioned for promoting the relevant page following which with the intervention of lawyers and the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka, he was produced before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court and granted bail.
