The apparel industry is on the verge of collapse due to political instability, Yohan Lawrence, Secretary General of Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF) said.
He stated that the JAAF showed the Government that buyers would take their business to other countries if the political instability continues.
“The current situation in Sri Lanka has affected the apparel industry a great deal and buyers are already thinking about withdrawing transactions from the Sri Lankan industry,” Anton Marcus, Joint Secretary, Free Trade Zones and General Services Employees Union claimed.
He said it would affect a large number of direct and indirect employments at apparel factories and urged that the political crisis should be stabilised immediately.
He further stated that the fuel prices should be reduced and the Government should supply the industry’s need.
