Welgama to steer clear of Interim Govt, NCM

MP Kumara Welgama said, he will not sign any proposal that is tabled in Parliament to either for man Interim Government or a No-Confidence Motion against the present regime.

He conveyed this while submitting a letter to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

The MP, who contested the previous General Election on the SJB ticket, before breaking ranks with them, said he will not use his vote in favour or against anyone. Welgama further conveyed to the Speaker that he will not support any endeavour of the present President till the latter’s term of office expires.

He further suggested seven measures that could be implemented by Parliament that will help save the country and its people by removing the President.

“The President’s expenditure head should be cut, as he would have to resign then. Following this, the Chief Justice should be appointed as Acting President for three months. The Executive Presidency should be abolished within those three months. Then, a few National List MPs should resign and intellectuals and professionals such as CBSL Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe and former Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake should fill those seats. Furthermore, a 20-member Cabinet should be appointed and national policies to resolve the burning problems of the people should be passed. Then, Parliament should be dissolved before a year of appointing an Interim Government,” he said.
