SLPP backbenchers seek JJB support

Ten SLPP backbenchers who became independent recently, have submitted a letter to Jathika Jana Balawegaya (JJB) Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake expecting the latter’s backing for a Caretaker Government to tide over the country’s pressing problems.

The MPs had stated that decisions taken by the present regime had been rejected by the masses and hence they said they were forwarding the letter to seek his support to form an All-Party interim Government.

The SLPP MPs had further stated that the need of the hour was for all political parties to set aside political aspirations and work towards the nation and the well-being of the people.

They added that the JJB Leader was knowledgeable in resolving most of the country’s burning issues and hence theyurged him to be involved in such a process.

The SLPP 10-member group consists of K.P.S. Kumarasiri, Lalith Ellawela, Attorney Udayana Kirindigoda, Senior Lecturer Gunapala Rathnasekara, Attorney Wasantha Yapa Bandara, Karunadasa Kodithuwakku, Akila Ellawela, Dr. Upul Galappaththi, Sudath Manjula and Udayakantha Gunathileka.

These MPs recently released a statement claiming that they would take a decision according to their ‘conscience’ if a common agreement is not reached on the solutions to overcome the current situation in the country, including forming an interim government, they presented to the President, the PM and several parties in the Government.
