Payment was made yesterday (28) for a coal shipment for electricity generation. Coal will be available until next September, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara said.
He was speaking during the meeting of the Committee on Parliamentary Business.
Wijesekara, Minister of Trade and Samurdhi Development Shehan Semasinghe, Ministry Secretaries and other officials attended the committee meeting yesterday (28) to discuss the current crisis regarding the energy, electricity and gas supply in the country.
During the meeting, the Minister of Power said steps are being taken to introduce a joint pricing formula for the Indian Oil Company and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC).
The Minister told the committee that two new Secretaries have been appointed to these two Ministries and that they will work with officials to the best of their ability to manage the current situation and overcome the crisis in the coming days.
He also said a detailed report on the causes of the crisis and the existing management weaknesses will be presented to Parliament soon.
“The Muthurajawela terminal is working round the clock to ensure the continuous supply of fuel and that the staff is working with maximum dedication,” Wijesekara added.
