Fmr PDB Chair granted bail with severe warning


Jaffna Additional Magistrate on 27 April granted bail, in two sureties, to Krishantha Pathiraja, and warned him against interfering with the witnesses until the case is over.

The Court also ordered the Headquarters Inspector of the Jaffna Police Station to record the complaint from Nellinathan Sivaraja, the Internal Auditor of the Palmyrah Development Board and to conduct a full investigation into the theft of millions of rupees, by the former chairman. The Court ordered the Jaffna Police to file thir reports in Court.

Earlier, the Internal Auditor filed a case, through his lawyer Stanislaus Celestine and charged that the accused, Pathiraja, who was the Chairman of the Palmyrah Development Board had broken open the cabinet, removed, allegedly destroyed and burnt the Internal Audit and other Inquiry Reports.

The complainant noted that the documents were allegedly destroyed by the accused.

The case was filed last year in November, however, Pathiraja appeared before the Magistrate on 27 April. The case has been fixed for further hearing and reports on 24 August, 2022.
