A day after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa sending a letter to party leaders in Government for a discussion to form an Interim Government after the resignation of Premier Mahinda Rajapaksa, the latter told a group of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Local Government Members that the President will never ask him to resign.
“I am confident the Head of State, who has never called for my resignation, will ask me to step down in the future either,” he told.
His meeting with the Local Government Members was held at Temple Trees yesterday (27).
Speaking further, Premier Rajapaksa said anyone can level allegations against him and the Government.
“However, those allegations need to be proved. We cannot turn our back on the Constitution and leave, by simply allowing the country to go into a state of anarchy,” he said.
