President Agrees ‘in Principle’

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa invited party leaders, both who represent the Government and those who became independent recently, for a discussion to determine the structure, timeline and distribution of responsibilities in an All-Party Interim Government formed after the resignation of Premier Mahinda Rajapaksa and the present Cabinet.

The meeting will be held tomorrow (29) at 10:30 a.m. at President’s House in Colombo.

In a letter, the President said that since a solution to the crisis facing the country right now, he agrees in principle to an all-party government representing all parties in Parliament be formed, following requests of the Mahanayaka Theras, the Colombo Archbishop, religious leaders, political parties and civil society organisations.

“As a first step, I invite party leaders both who represented the Government and became independent recently for a discussion at President’s House in Colombo. I cordially invite you (party leaders) to participate in the meeting with your proposals. By participating it would be a great service to the nation,” the President said.
