Godahewa feigns ignorance

Co-Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalaka Godahewa said he was unaware that approximately 120 MPs were willing to vote in favour of the No-Confidence Motion (NCM) against the Government.

When questioned if it was true that MP Udaya Gammanpila has stated that 120 MPs will support the NCM, he said he was not in a position to determine whether Gammanpila’s statement was accurate or not.

“We know that 39 MPs are independent. Besides that, we have no idea who the 120 MPs who are opposing us. We will have to wait and see if an impeachment or an NCM is tabled in Parliament,” he explained.

The 11 constituent parties and 42 independent MPs will bring an NCM against the Government in Parliament this week, according to Gammanpila. He was convinced that the NCM had already received the support of 125 MPs.

“If the Government is defeated by the NCM, an SLPP MP will be named Prime Minister and an interim Government will be constituted. The draft NCM has been provided to the SJB, JVP, and SLPP, and they have already agreed to vote in favour of the motion,” he said on Sunday.
