Six of Kandy Sports Club players secured their berths, in the national sevens rugby squad, ahead of the Commonwealth and Asian Games to be held in Birmingham and China in July and September.
Despite missing out on last year’s Asia Rugby sevens, a number of senior players are back in the national squad after missing out on international assignments over the last two years due to Covid.
Kandy SC skipper Nigel Ratwatte, who had quit the shorter format of the game, since 2015, has returned to the format and has been selected in the sevens team after the national trials were held on Sunday at Longdon Place.
