Court refuses to ban protest

A request made by the Kollupitiya Police to Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela yesterday (25), seeking an order to stop the ongoing protest opposite Temple Trees, was dismissed.

However, the Acting Magistrate advised the Police to act within the law if protesters tend to act in violation of public peace and thereby cause hindrance to civilians.

He added that he cannot issue orders to Police, who tend to make requests, without identifying who is precisely engaged in the protest.
