Constitutional Reforms Committee hands over report


The report of the Committee on Constitutional Reforms was handed over to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday (25).

Secretary to the President, Gamini Senarath said the contents of the report will be considered in depth by the Government with a view to determining further measures to be taken.

He added that President expressed his appreciation to the Chairman and members of the committee for their work.

A nine-member experts’ committee, headed by President’s Counsel Romesh de Silva, was appointed to draft a new Constitution in September 2020.

President’s Counsels Manohara de Silva, Gamini Marapana, Sanjeewa Jayawardena, Samantha Ratwatte and Prof. Nadeema Kamurdeen, Prof. G. H. Peiris, Prof. Wasantha Seneviratne, Dr. A. Sarveshwaran were appointed as members to the committee.
