Another travel ban on Cabraal

Colombo Fort Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday (25) impounded the passport of former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal, banning him from leaving the country, till the end of the case, in which he has been charged with misappropriating
USD 6.5 million of State funds.

The Court also issued summons on Cabraal ordering him to appear in Court on 7 June. Chief Magistrate Gamage issued this order after reviewing a private plaint filed by Ven. Thiniyawala Palitha Thera, Chief Incumbent of the Nalandarama Temple in Nugegoda.

The monk alleges, in his private plaint, the former CBSL Governor paid the aforementioned sum to Ahmed Sabry, of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), eight years ago, while serving as the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, on the pretext of enhancing Sri Lanka’s image globally.
