Hunt on for cop in charge of Court productions


The Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) has yesterday (24) informed Colombo Additional Magistrate T. Prabhakaran that an investigation has been launched to apprehend the officer in charge of the Production Room of the Hulftsdorp Chief Magistrate’s Court, from where a stock of heroin had been smuggled out.

The Additional Magistrate then directed the PNB to conduct an investigation to ascertain whether other individuals had also been involved in the smuggling of heroin stored as court productions and for how long the racket had been operating,and report to the Court.

The PNB then reported that the person in charge of the production room has now fled the area and disappeared. On 21 April, the PNB apprehended a youth in the Wellampitiya Police Division with 48g of heroin. According to the suspect’s statements, he obtained the heroin from a Constable assigned to the Gothatuwa Police.

The PNB stated in Court that they made the suspect call the suspect police constable who then arrived at a parking lot in the Gothatuwa area, and upon inspection the suspect had 750g of heroin on him. Following his appearance in Court, the suspect Police officer was remanded.

During the suspect’s interrogation, it was discovered that he had obtained the heroin from the officer in charge of the Hulftsdorp Chief Magistrate’s Court production room.

Meanwhile, the PNB stated that the officer in charge of the room is still missing and that investigations are being conducted to locate him. The Magistrate ordered the PNB to conduct all investigations and report to the Court on the matter.
