Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela today (25) rejected a request made by the Kollupitiya Police seeking permission to evacuate those protesting in front of Temple Trees in Colombo.

The request was made claiming that the group, who have been protesting over the last two days in front of Temple Trees, caused great inconvenience to pedestrians by blocking the pedestrian crossing situated near the premises.

Despite rejecting the request on grounds that such an order could not be issued without naming specific protesters, the Additional Magistrate instructed the Police to use force in the event the protesters create unrest, causing public inconvenience.
