In response to a question by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa in Parliament on Friday (22), Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said, he did not attend the National Security Council (NSC) meeting following the Rambukkana shooting, even though he was invited.
Premadasa questioned that although the NSC was convened after the Rambukkana shooting, the Prime Minister was not invited for that meeting. However, in response, Public Security Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, who stood up on behalf of the Premier, said it was the latter who chose not to attend the meeting.
Ranatunga: “The Premier who is sitting here is repeatedly saying that he did not attend the meeting. You are lying to the House deliberately.”
The Prime Minister then stood up and said, “I was invited for the meeting. But I did not go. I was briefed about what they discussed after the meeting. It was my fault not attending the meeting.”
