Navy nabs Rs 20M worth KG in Mannar

The Sri Lanka Navy seized about 81kg of Kerala Cannabis (KG) worth over Rs 20 million during a patrol near the Mannar sand banks in the morning of 20 April.

Accordingly, SLNS Thammanna in the North Central Naval Command found the consignment of illegal drugs, after they detected a suspicious sack lying on a sand dune during a patrol in seas off the Mannar sand banks. The sack contained 25 packages of KG weighing a total of 81kg. It is believed that the smugglers had left behind the drugs with the intention of recovering them when there is no Navy presence.

The seized KG is being kept in Naval custody for onward legal proceedings.
