The Sri Lanka National Chess Championships 2022 (Open & Women) will be held on 23, 24, 25, 28, 29, 30 April and 1 May at the Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research Institute, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 7.
Sri Lanka’s top 14 Men and top 14 Women will compete in the events, which will comprise 13 rounds. It will also be considered as a selection event for the Sri Lanka National Men’s and Women’s Teams for the FIDE Chess Olympiad 2022 (Top five players) and the Asian Games 2022 (subject to confirmation from Olympic Committee).
National Champ Susal de Silva and No.1 ranked (over 2300) Ranindu Dilshan Liyanage play as direct entries in the Open event. Harshana Thilakarathne (over 2300) has withdrawn from the event.
Women’s National Champion Tharushi Niklesha had also to unfortunately withdraw from the event due to academic reasons.
The Golden Jubilee Gift
The Chess Federation of Sri Lanka has decided to increase the prize fund by 50%, considering it is their Golden Jubilee this year, and the total fund now amounts to Rs. 498,000.
Winners will be awarded cash prizes along with the Trophy and Medals.
