IGP directs CID to submit interim report

The IGP has directed the CID to submit an interim report within three days into the death of a person when Police used force to disperse protesters in Rambukkana on 19 April.

The investigation was handed over to the CID in accordance with Section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

The investigation has been assigned to Deputy Inspector General of CID W. Tilakaratne by the IGP. K.B. Chaminda Lakshan, a resident of Naranbedda, Hiriwadunna, is the victim.

The last rites will take place today (22) in Naranbedda, Hiriwadunna, in the Dewalegama Police Division. The IGP has asked the Defence Secretary to deploy the Tri-Forces to maintain peace in the area.

Troops have been deployed to maintain public order in the Kegalle District. They will help keep the peace in Dewalegama and Rambukkana until tomorrow (23).

Meanwhile, the Kegalle Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Rambukkana Division Superintendent of Police, and Rambukkana OIC have been transferred with immediate effect.

The transfers, according to the Police, were made to allow aggrieved parties and witnesses in the incident to participate in independent investigations and Court proceedings.
