Army security for fuel bowsers

Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekara, said the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) will provide security to fuel bowsers transporting fuel with immediate effect.

The Minister said, the Army decided to provide security in the aftermath of the incident on the afternoon of 19 April in Rambukkana as well as in a few other areas where issues had cropped up with regard to fuel transport.

The move to provide Army protection for fuel bowsers was taken on a request by the CPC Fuel Bowsers Union (CPCFBU).

Head of the CPCFBU, A.H.M. Adhikari said they had brought the issue to the notice of the Minister and CPC officials after several of its drivers had faced problems with regard to fuel transport in several areas.

The Minister had earlier assured safety for fuel bowsers while also requesting the public to cooperate in the islandwide supply of fuel.
