Protests were launched in Trincomalee on 19 April expressing dissatisfaction with the current Government’s mismanagement and the skyrocketing prices of essential goods.
The protests continued yesterday (20), with demonstrators blocking traffic with make-shift barricades and burning tires.
Protesters had blocked the Trincomalee-Kandy main road and the Abayapura roundabout.
Protesters also parked a bus across the Trincomalee-Kandy main road yesterday impeding vehicular movement to the Uppuveli area. Trincomalee’s businesses also closed in support of the protests.
It has been reported that civil servants were sent back home on the day of the protests.
