Speaker MahindaYapa Abeywardena adjourned Parliamentary Sittings for 10 minutes yesterday (19) following a heated situation in the Chamber.

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MPs participated in yesterday’s sittings wearing headbands with slogan ‘Go Home Gota’.

SJB MP Nalin Bandara criticised Shantha Bandara, who made a U-turn, taking a State Minister post after claiming he would be independent in Parliament along with other Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) MPs.

Bandara who responded said, he accepted the post according to his conscience.

While Bandara was speaking, the Opposition MPs shouted at him. The situation reached a climax when the Opposition started hooting at Bandara.

The Speaker requested the MPs to calm down. Since the MPs did not listen, the Speaker adjourned the sittings for 10 minutes.
