The Meteorology Department yesterday (18) said showers or thundershowers can be expected in some parts of the country today (19).
Meteorologist Channa Rodrigo yesterday said showers or thundershowers can be expected in several places in Uva, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North Central and Eastern Provinces in the evening or night.
Rodrigo further said several spells of showers could occur in the Western Province, Matara and Puttalam Districts in the day. He also cautioned the public of possible strong winds and lightning strikes, advising precautionary measures to minimise damage caused by localised temporary winds and lightning strikes.
Meanwhile, Rodrigo said showers or thundershowers could occur in several places in the sea off the coast from Puttalam extending to Hambantota via Colombo, Kalutara and Galle while expecting showers or thundershowers at a few places in the deep and shallow sea in the evening or night. Wind speed is expected to be from 20 to 30 kmph in the sea from South Westerly direction. Wind speed is expected to be increased from 35 to 45 kmph at times in the sea off the coast from Puttalam extending to Kankesanturai via Mannar.
The sea off the coast from Puttalam extending to Kankesanturai via Mannar would remain fairly rough at times. Other coastal areas would remain slight to moderate. Temporary strong, gusty winds and rough sea can be expected during the thundershowers, he added.
