Repeal 20A immediately – Suresh

General Secretary of the Lanka Jathika Estate Workers Union, Vadivel Suresh, said the 20th Amendment should be repealed immediately and the 19th Amendment should be reintroduced with amendments.

He said, the President has been given a great deal of power. Furthermore, he believes that the 21st Amendment should be tabled in Parliament.

“I am opposed to the idea of setting up an Interim Government, because it is like handing over the country to foxes,” Suresh said.

Meanwhile, he said, every Parliamentarian should sign a No-Confidence Motion against the Government and an Impeachment Motion against the President, putting public demands first. Parliamentarians should act responsibly to find solutions to the country’s issues. “Representatives of the upcountry and Tamil community in particular should sign the No-Confidence Motion,” he added.

“Parliament should not only look into the interests of a family or person. They need to listen to the voice of the people. There needs to be regime change. Due to the irresponsible behaviour of the Government people have taken to the streets to fight for their rights and are getting drenched in the rain,” he said.
