State Minister of Organic Fertiliser Production, Shantha Bandara said, he accepted the position of State Minister following the failure to form an Interim Government, as suggested by the 11 parties.

He was sworn in as the State Minister of Organic Fertiliser Production, Promotion, and Supply Regulation, as well as the Promotion of Paddy and Cereals, Organic Food, Vegetables, Fruits, Chilies, Salt, and Potato Cultivation, Seed Production, and High Tech Agriculture.

Addressing the media, he said that the process of forming an interim government had failed and that he had decided to accept the position to help the country recover from the crisis.

“The President summoned me, and I told him that as an independent MP, I will support him in keeping the country running smoothly. I also promised to make any sacrifice necessary for this.

The President then stated, as a politician who is not involved in any corruption, I have been asked to stand alongside the public and farmers,” he said.

In addition, he stated that the decision he made was not selfish or narrow-minded, but rather public-friendly.

When asked if he plans to continue working with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), he said yes.
