State Minister of Digital Technology and Enterprise Development Namal Rajapaksa has spoken against the ongoing social media ban, regarding the move as a ‘useless’ attempt.
Taking to Twitter, Rajapaksa explained that the availability of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) rendered the ban “completely useless”.
Moreover, while assuring that he will never tolerate such acts, Rajapaksa urged authorities to rethink their decision in a more progressive manner.
“I will never condone the blocking of social media. The availability of VPN, just like I’m using now, makes such bans completely useless. I urge the authorities to think more progressively and reconsider this decision. #SocialMediaBanLK #SriLanka #lka“, the Minister tweeted.
