Cabinet Spokesman and Minister of Mass Media Dullas Alahapperuma has urged that the fundamental right to peacefully protest be upheld.

Taking to Twitter, Alahapperuma condemned the brutal assault on journalists during the protest that took place in Mirihana on Thursday evening (31), near President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s residence.

He further added, however, that protesters too, bore the responsibility of refraining from resorting to violence and damaging public property during such protests.

“Citizens right to protest peacefully must be upheld. Protesters too mustn’t resort to violence and vandalism of public properties. Vehemently condemn the brutal assault on journalists”, he said.
