Suspect allowed bail

Colombo Additional Magistrate Chandima Liyanage, yesterday (31 March), enlarged on bail the main broker who was charged with using of a minor from Mount Lavinia and several women as sex workers, while earning an income of more than Rs 40 million. 

Bail was set at three sureties of Rs 10 million each.

The suspect was identified as Rajiv Jayasinghe, a resident of Wadduwa. 

The Illegal Acquisition of Wealth Division affiliated to the CID, prosecuted.

The suspect had been remanded on charges of using a 14-year-old girl from Mount Lavinia for sex work.

The CID informed the Court on 22 February this year, that they had begun a probe based on Provisions contained in the Money Laundering Act.

They had further told Court, that the probe conducted into the case had revealed that the suspect had maintained eight bank accounts during the past 16 years.

The CID had stated that the suspect had earned an income of more than Rs 40 million via the use of the minor and several women as sex workers and noted that he had also purchased a few luxury vehicles under the names of others.
