The 37th Kala Bhushana State Awards Ceremony was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall yesterday (31 March).
Awards were presented to 200 artistes who have rendered invaluable service to literature, art, dance, drama and traditional arts.
Prof. Kapila Gunawardena, Secretary to the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs and Tharani Anoja Gamage, Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs presented the commemorative volume to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at this year’s Kala Bhushana State Awards Ceremony.
Choreographer G. Wimalawathie, Literary Scholar S. Thiranagama, Literary Scholar UGSR Amarasuriya, Playwright P. A. D. C. A. Prasad Caldera, Indigenous Physician M.S. Jayaratne, Literary Scholar K. D. S. Sudusinghe, Literary Scholar Soma T. Perera, Leslie St. de Silva, Literary Scholar, Thyagarasa, Artist and Ponnadorai Literary Scholar received the State Awards.
Minister of State Vidura Wickramanayake, Secretary to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Prof. Kapila Gunawardena, Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs Tharani Anoja Gamage and many award winning artistes were present on the occasion.
